During the NATO field exercise “BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA 2017”, which is being held on September 25-29 around Tuzla, a presentation and testing of the NICS system was held.

Ministry of Security of BiH is taking part in a project "Advanced Regional Coordination in Disasters in the Western Balkan Countries", which will develop a system to improve communication and exchange of relevant information between rescue and protection services in cases of natural or other disasters in BiH and the Western Balkan countries.

"NICS system already showed to be useful and very helpful to the rescue services during search for missing persons, transport of injured persons, extinguishing fires, etc. It has been actively used since May this year and the first time it was used was during a search for a missing person in area of Brčko District," said Mirnesa Softić from Ministry of Security of BiH.

Project is supported by NATO's NATO Science for Peace and Security Program – SPS and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security – DHS, Ministry of Security of BiH stated.

NATO field disaster response exercise "Bosnia and Herzegovina 2017" gathered around 1300 participants from 34 countries.

Exercise is jointly organized by Ministry of Security of BiH and Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC). Goal of the exercise is improving interoperability of international activities in responding to natural disasters.
