The French Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in cooperation with UNESCO, has financed the reconstruction and improvement of surveillance of the premises of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina which houses the valuable Sarajevo Haggadah in order for it to be better presented to the wider public.

The inauguration of the new space will be held on Thursday at the Department of Archeology of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, announced the French Embassy in BiH.

Implementation of the project the "Haggadah, Closer to You" will enable the National Museum of BiH to keep the Haggadah in better conditions and have the presentation adapted for the visitors.

The level of protection of the Sarajevo Hagadah ranging from the lighting, changes in temperature and humidity, but also from fire or theft, has been raised considerably. Also, the presentation system reduces the need for frequent manual manipulation, which altogether contributes to its better protection.

The Republic of France, UNESCO and the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina have also contributed in improving the presentation of the Haggadah.

The large screen setting allows Hagggadah pages to be viewed virtually, and thanks to UNESCO funds, copies of Hagada will be reprinted with a new study that will reveal information unknown to date.

“The project ‘Haggadah – Closer to You’ reflects France's efforts to support the future of the BiH National Museum. We hope that this reconstruction will help the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina to head to the future in a better way and to encourage other donors to support the valorization of its invaluable collection,” said French Ambassador to BiH, Guillaume Rousson.

UNESCO is extremely proud of its participation in the project, funded by the French Government, as it helps to protect this valuable manuscript that testifies to a long-standing tradition of coexistence in this region, which has been included in the Memory of the World Register since November 2017.
