International Friendship Festival Goražde

“International Friendship Festival” takes place in Goražde as the main event of the tourist season in Bosnian-Podrinje Canton Goražde. The festival takes place in August and is organised by the Centre for Culture. The Festival is a synthesis of various cultural events with guests from many countries under slogan “Friendship, companionship, games and fun”. The idea for the festival came from good friends from Association “Bosnia – Bretagne et Gorazde“ and its president, Catherine Herve from Saint Brienc in Bretagne, France, in 1996. The idea was materialised in 1997 with the first Friendship Festival.
There were 60 artists from France, they arrived to Goražde and together with the hosts they organised the First Friendship Festival in the world. Traditionally, the participants come from four continents: Europe, Asia, North America and Australia, more than 20 countries in total and over 1.500 participants. This international event also gathered more than 1.000 artists from 25 European countries and elsewhere that offered a variety of rich programmes and attracted tens of thousands of visitors.
Most interesting fact about this festival is that every citizen is also a participant. The idea was to open Goražde to Europe and the world, to promote tolerance, peace and cooperation between various cultures regardless of their race, nationality, ethnic background and other specifics. The program of the Festival includes international writers’ gatherings, book fair and promotion, cinematic projections, performances, exhibitions of handcrafts, international art colony, fair of trades, various workshops, sports events, costume party and other programmes for children, concerts, folk nights, sevdah nights, spiritual and classical music nights.
The festival in Goražde is not only a cultural and sports manifestation, it also has tourism and economy character. It contributes to the social and economical development of Goražde Municipality, Bosnian-Podrinje Canton Goražde, Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.
