Marking World Tourism Day - Continuation of support for Via Dinarica project

The FBiH Minister of Environment and Tourism Edita Đapo and Sukhrob Khoshmukhamedov, Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), signed today a co-financing agreement for the Via Dinarica project worth 200,000 KM, which the ministry has allocated for further support to this project, on the occasion of World Tourism Day.
Via Dinarica – the Platform for Sustainable Tourism Development and Local Economic Growth, is an initiative funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in BiH, the Italian Government's Development Cooperation Agency and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in BiH, and is implemented with the support and in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the FBiH Ministry of Environment and Tourism and the Ministry of Trade and Tourism of RS.
The first phase of the Via Dinarica project was completed by the end of last year, and the next phase started in the summer of 2018 and will last until 2021.
The focus of the second phase of the project will be to strengthen Via Dinarica as an internationally recognized platform for local economic growth, as well as a stronger the participation of local communities in its implementation and development.
Đapo emphasized that the FBiH Ministry of Environment and Tourism has been supporting Via Dinarica for the third year in a row as an internationally recognized brand that, by using natural and cultural resources, ensures the existence of the local population, while respecting diversity and preservation of the environment.
Khoshmukhamedov pointed out that Via Dinarica was designed to reduce economic, social and regional inequalities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and to increase BiH's competitiveness in the field of nature tourism.
He expressed satisfaction that Via Dinarica, which connects natural and cultural sights in the Dinarides, in this way is recognized by the local institutions of government as a great development opportunity and potential, primarily for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
