The Sarajevo Halal Fair, which will feature 91 exhibitors from 14 countries opened today at Skenderija Center in Sarajevo.

During the fair, regional producers of halal products and providers of halal services from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Macedonia and Albania will be able to meet with customers and distributors from the European Union, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Malaysia, Bahrain, Libya and the United Arab Emirates.

Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdić said at the opening of the event that the Sarajevo Halal Fair serves not only as an event to promote activities aimed at strengthening the economy of Bosnia and Herzegovina and continuous linking of business people, but also as one of the most promising strategic links for the economies of the entire region.

“I see this fair as a great opportunity for new investments, because the market for halal products has great potential, both in the world and in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The total market for halal products in 2016 was worth about USD 5.73 trillion,” said Zvizdić.

Raisu-l-ulama of the Islamic Community in BiH Husein effendi Kavazović emphasized that halal business also means regular fulfillment of obligations towards workers and suppliers, as entrepreneurs often operate in the gray zone chasing extra profit.

Malaysian Prime Minister Mohammad Mahatir addressed the guests at the fair via video link and in his message said that he hopes the Sarajevo Halal Fair would become the largest event of its kind in Southeast Europe.

“Malaysia is a global leader in the halal economy and it is encouraging to see that this sector is continually developing and growing. The Sarajevo Halal Fair can become a platform for large investments in BiH and the region as whole,” said Mahatir.

The fair, organized by Bosna Bank International (BBI) in cooperation with the Islamic Community in BiH and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), will last three days.

On the last day, the Fair will present the Global Islamic Finance Awards (GIFA), one of the most prestigious awards in the field of leadership and Islamic finance.

The first halal cookbook in Croatia will be promoted at the fair, and the renowned chefs from Bosnia and Herzegovina will hold presentations of food preparation in accordance with halal standards.

The exhibition titled “The Pearls of Islamic Architecture”, featured by Islam Art Magazine, will be held at the Sarajevo City Hall.
