''Bistrik kula'' fort is located near the bobsled track on Trebević mountain. It was Built during the Austro-Hungarian rule in BiH as a part of the defense system of the city of Sarajevo.The facility was abandoned after the cessation of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and did not function until 1967. when it was put to use by the University Astronomical Society. The observatory, which gradually became one of the symbols of Trebević and Sarajevo, had everything an astronomer might need during his stay for several days, as well as the library and a photo lab. During the war in BiH, the facility was completely devastated and is still awaiting for recovery.

The first construction works of the astronomical observatory, then called ''Čolina kapa'', were carried out from 1969 to 1972. The old fort was reconstructed and two domes were erected on it. The smaller one housed a double astrograph and the larger a "vaisala" reflector.

From 1975 to 1982, the second phase of construction of the observatory was in progress.  A larger reflector telescope was purchased and a completely new 8-meter-high dome was built for it.

Due to recent war events, the Trebević Astronomical Observatory was completely destroyed in the summer of 1992.
