Burek is a food specialty of Bosnian cuisine taken from Turkish cuisine (burek is a Turkey word for bending). It is a pie made of finely chopped or minced meat, mixed with onions and spices and  poured into a thinly sprinkled dough. Depending on the method of preparation, the most common is long-wrapped jumbo-“zvrk” in Bosnia, which are bent into a circle, and then baked in a round, shallow bowl (“tepsija”).

Sometimes the burek is made in “sač”. There is also burek that is made by dough that is not bend, but arranged in rows. The bundle burek, which is processed so that the jams do not fly, but the smaller pieces of dough with the meat, fit into the layers. For Sarajevo and its surroundings, also specific are “ buredžici”, in smaller rows of shredded pieces, which begin with a mixture of cream and garlic. Served with sour milk or yogurt. Places where you can try burek and pie are called buregdžinice and can be found in almost all places in BiH.

Although the most famous burek is Sarajevo burek, in almost every town in Bosnia and Herzegovina there are burekdžinice where you can try this delicious traditional dish.
