When visiting Sarajevo, one of the fisrt locations you visit should be the National Museum located at the Zmaja od Bosne 3.
Entrance fee is 6 KM for adults, children from 6 to 18 years pay 3 KM and seniors fee is 3 KM. Children of pre-school age can enter the museum for free.
The Museum's working hours are from 10 am to 7 pm on weekdays (except Monday) and on weekends from 10 am to 2 pm.
There are plenty interesting archeological and ethnological collection at the Museum, as well as numerous botanical, geological and zoological collections.
Founded in 1888, the Earth Museum is the oldest modern cultural and scientific institution of Western type in BiH. The first idea of museum establishment dates back to the middle of the 19th century, while the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina - as the Bosnian Pashaluk - belonged to the Ottoman Empire. However, the idea was realized nearly four decades later by the arrival of new government. Austro-Hungarians occupied Bosanski pashaluk in 1878, bringing new political and social goals, customs and values. They also involved promotion of science through research, academic and institutional development.
